WordPress vs Shopify vs Framer vs HubSpot: The Honest Comparison

Framer wins marketing sites on speed and running cost. Shopify owns ecommerce. HubSpot earns its premium only when your sales team already lives in HubSpot CRM. WordPress remains the most flexible and the most demanding. Pick by what the site must do, not by market share.

We build on all four. This is the detailed head-to-head; if you want the fast version, the platform comparison hub gets you to an answer in about ten minutes.

Key takeaways

  • There is no best platform, only the best fit for a business model.

  • Framer: fastest to launch, lowest total cost of ownership, weakest for complex applications.

  • Shopify: the only sane default when selling products is the point.

  • HubSpot: buys closed-loop attribution; costs the most to build and to licence.

  • WordPress: most flexible, fully owned, permanently maintained.

The arguments people get wrong

The arguments people get wrong

The arguments people get wrong

“WordPress is free”

The software is free. The site is not. Hosting, premium plugin renewals, security, and maintenance hours are the real cost, and they recur forever. Compare three-year totals, not sticker prices.

“Hosted platforms mean you do not own your site”

You own your content, your domain, and your data, and you can export and migrate. What you give up is the ability to run arbitrary server-side code. For a marketing site, that is a trade most businesses should happily make.

“Shopify can do a content site too”

It can, badly. Shopify’s blogging and content architecture is its weakest area. Brands with serious content programmes usually end up running a separate marketing site alongside the store.

“HubSpot is too expensive”

It is expensive, which is different. If it removes a reporting problem that costs your team a week a month, it pays. If your CRM is elsewhere, it does not.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Which platform is best for SEO?

All four can rank. Framer and WordPress give the most direct control over technical SEO; Framer has a speed advantage out of the box; WordPress has the deepest tooling ecosystem.

Which is cheapest overall?

Framer, over a three-year horizon, for a marketing site. The absence of plugins and maintenance is what does it, not the build price.

Can I move later?

Yes. Migrations between all four are routine when done with redirect discipline.

What do you build on most?

Framer for marketing sites, Shopify for stores, HubSpot when the CRM demands it, WordPress when flexibility or ownership is the requirement.
